Japan features
From politics to sports, travels and culture in all its forms, I regularly cover every aspect of Japanese society. I also blog about otaku culture at Otaku Tokyo.
Other writing
I cover the art and culture scenes even outside Japan, writing features, doing interviews, and reviewing exhibitions of foreign artists in Tokyo.
Among other things, I have extensively covered the underground scene, particularly the international zine and mail art networks.
BOOKS
I'm the author of the Tokyo Geek's Guide, the most comprehensive English travel guide ever produced about Tokyo's otaku scene, and Otaku Japan, where I cover the whole of the country.
I have contributed to DK Travel's Be More Japan and Eyewitness Tokyo's latest edition.
I co-authored Made of This with Randy Osborne.
I have contributed to the Dizionario di Storia (BRUNO MONDADORI)
Specialties: Writing (all things Japanese, Asia travel, art, books, subcultures, interviews, travel, city guides, lifestyle, trends, expat stories, human rights issues).
TESTIMONIALS
"Gianni is one of the most eminent experts on Japanese culture, history, art and people. He's also trilingual (Italian, Japanese and English) and charming to work with. I've worked with him many times in the capacity of a photographer, and have always been impressed by his intelligence, work ethic and ability to get the best out of people."

INTERVIEWS
I was interviewed by Wandering Educators about otaku culture and why and how my Tokyo Geek's Guide was born.
I was also interviewed by Asia Art Tours about my writing and career in journalism.
