Having lived for almost thirty years in or around Tokyo, I'm usually asked to write about the Japanese, their culture and society.
In the last ten years I have interviewed literally hundreds of people including model and actress Kiko Mizuhara for Vogue Italia and former prime minister Kan Naoto about the nuclear disaster in Fukushima.
My piece about Japanese houses was one of the ten most popular Japan Times articles for that year.
More recently, I have written a story for the Monitor about the way Black people are portrayed in Japanese comics and a highly-praised piece about alcoholism and A.A. Japan.
For Zoom Japon, I have interviewed film director and former Japanese Red Army member Adachi Masao.
For Metropolis I have followed the Japanese zines' paper trail.
For INTOUCH I have talked to the people who live in Tokyo's day laborer district, and those who have devoted their life to helping them. I have also explored the beauty and mystery of Japanese pottery.
For SFAQ I wrote a fantastic interview with Aida Makoto.
My travel-related writing has appeared in several places including localiiz.
Last but not least, my first book, Tokyo Geek's Guide, has gathered excellent reviews. Here's an excerpt from the introduction.
